SAILING: Rolex Sidney Cup
01. Januar 2012, 16:51
VICTORY ON THE 14th ATTEMPT
Abo-Sieger im Ziel gut drei Minuten geschlagen - Deutsche Fassung
The 2011 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race was notable for an unexpected winner of the coveted line honours trophy, a worthy overall winner and a slow passage home for the smaller boats. The Boxing Day start of the 628 mile race south to Hobart was spectacular, with the 88-strong international fleet setting off from the heart of Sydney Harbour, with its iconic bridge and Opera House as a backdrop. The Heads and shoreline were teeming with spectators as news helicopters flew overhead. Leading the charge on the beat out of the Harbour was Bob Oatley’s maxi Wild Oats XI, the line honours winner in five out of the last six Rolex Sydney Hobarts.INVESTEC LOYAL escorted by spectator craft before crossing the finish line

FINAL JOCKEYING TO DETERMINE THE HANDICAP WINNER
Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race
With the line honours podium decided in the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, focus now shifts to the handicap race under IRC for the Tattersall’s Cup.Stephen Ainsworth’s crew on the successful Reichel Pugh 63 Loki is hoping that their corrected time in the race, that currently has them second under IRC, will elevate them to first place. This would give Ainsworth, who earlier this month was crowned the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s 2011 Ocean Racer of the Year, the handicap win in the Rolex Sydney Hobart that has so far eluded him.BRINDABELLA passing Tasmania's iconic Organ Pipes 15, BRINDABELLA, Sail No: 10000, Owner: Jim Cooney, Design: Jutson 80, LOA (m): 24.1, State: NSW .Photo By: Rolex / Kurt Arrigo . »

Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race
Fällt der Streckenrekord nach Weihnachten?
Sydney. ISAF ROLEX WORLD SAILOR OF THE YEAR AWARDS
ANNA TUNNICLIFFE, IKER MARTÍNEZ AND XABIER FERNÁNDEZ NAMED 2011 ISAF ROLEX WORLD SAILORS OF THE YEAR
The renowned two-man crew of Iker Martínez and Xabier Fernández (ESP) were unable to attend the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards ceremony in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Fittingly, they are currently at sea competing for Team Telefónica in the first leg of the Volvo Ocean Race from Alicante, Spain to Cape Town, South Africa. The Spanish duo have won the Award eleven years after the first of their three nominations. Through a video feed recorded on the Team Telefónica boat, the pair confirmed that they will be celebrating this prestigious achievement despite the immediate distractions of an ocean race. 160 Jahre America's Cup
